Me and Our Lass decided to have a go ont some scratchies. Not everyones a winner... (you gotta be in it to bin it...)
Id like to start this blog on a sour note; me and Our Lass may have a somewhat cavalier attitude to DJing, but its served us well so far. Far enough that we dont need no Sheffield scenster telling us how to do our job- apprently real DJs dont dance to their own music. Ok this mite be true...if by real DJ you mean boring shoe gazer.
Take your trench coat and your alphabetised vinyl collection and stick it where where your teeth dont meet your gums. If your playing tracks like The Beatards youre gunna wanna dance, which begs the question:
'What the hell are you playing?'
On a lighter note- has anyone seen those outfits on the new Alexandra Burke video, and by seen I mean, totally died over...get me a #9, gold based, lycra stretch, sholder padded up to the ears, American Football all in one. Get it for me, and get it quick - Melody must have them on order yeh?
We were delighted to join our favourite glammer puss and resident Threads lovely Fresh Fruits for her first (of many!) hosting nites at DQ this Saturday nite. She did a fabulous job-especially with the rider, this girl knows warm larger does not make a happy ASBO. Infact it was so good that I can still taste the apple juice...
Playing a clubnite is always a teeny bit weird for me and Our Lass as were used to the pub circuit, as in
We had a killer time, and especially excited by the VJ busting out a plethora of ASBO imagery, theres nothing like dancing behind the decks as a 3 foot flashing image of your crotch is projected behind you (only ASBO could get into this shit). Our Lass' art work looked buzzing up there-espcially the falic stuff- DQ is all testosterone!!
Other highlights were our outfits, electrical tape can get you far these days (''Fruits, what are the ASBOs wearing?), a pint of apple juice, Dane's face after tequila, slamming toilet doors in peoples' faces and (of course) our rendition of Beyonce's crunk moves during Sweet Dream. You had to see it to love it - we got riddem manz.
It occured to Our Lass this week that there's barely been any music relased in the last 12 months thats fit to rival anything that she hasnt already got on a 90 min THS mix tape (yes we both have tape decks, please send us your old tapes-we will give them a good home and session them LOADS). I kinda have to agree apart from the obvious (Battlefield anyone?). If we could have our way, we would all revert back to the 90s where pop stars were ugly (Phil Collins anyone?) but made slammin tracks.
I also came to terms with the fact that if we ever make it big that Im going to spend all my money on employing a woman whos sole job is to apply my false eyelashes. Its a task that could send me over the edge (a tantrum a day helps you work rest and play).
We are ASBO a GoGo.
We are T and A.
Believe the re-hype.
This week I have mainly been sessioning:
Marina and the Diamonds
Human Waste Project
Smizing
and these dreamzz
and definately not sessioning anyone who sings Rod Stewart's I Am Sailing, it used to make me cry as a child and still does...
PS I love Chinos (and this little one).
